Getting Used to Windows 11: How to Move Start Menu Back to the Left

Anyone upgrading from Windows 10 to the new Windows 11 will immediately notice a visual change: the Start menu is now centered in the middle of the taskbar — a design choice that not all users appreciate. But for those who prefer the classic look, there’s good news: with just a few clicks, you can restore the traditional layout.

Changing the position of the Start menu is easily done through the Windows 11 system settings. Use the keyboard shortcut Windows + I to open Settings. Then, type “Taskbar” into the search bar at the top and open the corresponding taskbar customization options.

In the Taskbar behaviors section, you’ll find the Taskbar alignment setting. Simply select “Left” instead of “Center”.

  • Open Settings with Windows + I
  • Search for “Taskbar” in the search field
  • Go to the taskbar settings
  • Scroll to the Taskbar behaviors section
  • Change alignment from “Center” to “Left”

Once you make this change, the Start menu will return to its familiar position in the bottom-left corner — right where many users have been used to finding it for years.
